ruminations of a kennedy RSS

this is something i found and thought i'd give it a shot with little to no expectations other than to provide another outlet on the web that allows me to spill my thoughts, reflections, demented humor, and personal wisdom. (or is it ignorance?)

Happy Irish Stereotype Day!

so it’s st. patrick’s day and far be it for me to not make a post on this holiday which allows irish immigrants to remember their roots, and celebrate the spirit of former slave and gospel spreader maewyn succat (later patricius daorbae) with festivals and parades. but like so many other holidays, this one has later turned into another hallmark-esque creation, where people dye cheap beer, wear green, and basically “act irish for a day” (read: get pissed drunk, while singing and hollering in irish inspired pubs across the world).

the original saint patrick, obviously on his way to drink green beer, punch his friends, and throw up in a gutter.

as far as the random facts go, according to legend, st. patrick was credited with “teaching the Irish about the concept of the Trinity by showing people the shamrock, a 3-leaved clover, using it to highlight the Christian belief of ‘three divine persons in the one God.’” while the 4-leaf clover is said to not only bring good luck, it was once thought to be potent against malevolent spirts, ghosts, and witches.

so before pinching somebody who isn’t wearing green, or chugging that green-dyed natty light, i recommend everybody learn a little bit about why this holiday exists by searching either wikipedia or google.
